Monongalia County is located approximately one hour from Pittsburgh, P.A. and two and a half hours from Washington D.C.. Most of our schools are located in the Morgantown area, home to West Virginia University – an R1 Research Institution with a 5-school Health Sciences Center, and participant in Big 12 Athletics.

With 54 native languages and 60 countries represented in Monongalia County Schools, our diverse population demands a quality public academic system with leaders who focus on empowering educational excellence.

We keep our district student-centered by equipping educators AND students with the tools and resources necessary for their growth inside and beyond the classroom.

The MCS' community affords teachers unique opportunities to nurture and stretch students’ learning potential with measures in place to support each child’s intellectual, physical and social-emotional health.

In 2021, Monongalia County Schools received the top assessment scores in West Virginia in all grades and subjects tested, celebrated 17 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists and again saw students’ SAT scores above state and national averages. Our overall graduation rate is at 95% and Monongalia County was named Best WV School District by Niche Rankings and Stacker Publishing in 2021 and 2022.

Students and staff who call Monongalia County home enjoy all the amenities of a large city, such as theatre, music, sports and dining, while also appreciating our small-town charm and welcoming community.
