The Superintendent's Advisory Council (changed to the Family Advisory Council to the Superintendent (FACS) on January 11, 2023), was established in 2021 to provide a direct line of communication between individual school stakeholders and the Superintendent.
PURPOSE of the Family Advisory Council: It is the purpose of the Family Advisory Council to the Superintendent (FACS) to provide a school parent constituency the opportunity to communicate directly with the Superintendent on a monthly basis to provide input to be considered in the County’s decision-making process. The Council is formed to:
- Advance the achievement of county-wide goals to provide value in public education, celebrate educational excellence and build strong relationships with parents/guardians throughout the educational journey.
- Enhance communication between the Superintendent and school patrons.
- Serve as a sounding board for new ideas.
- Provide feedback to the Superintendent to help anticipate/identify community concerns and offer possible solutions.
- Assist with the planning process that may surround the implementation of change.
Membership: Each school principal will recommend one parent/guardian of a currently enrolled Monongalia County Schools' student to serve on the Advisory Council. Members are invited to serve on the Council until their child(ren) graduate high school in order to build consistent community-parent-school partnerships throughout the family's experience with Monongalia County Schools.
Each school's Local School Improvement Council chairperson (LSIC) and the Faculty Senate chairperson are invited to attend the monthly meetings to further represent the voice of the school.
MEMBERSHIP: The FACS members may include:
- Appointed parents/guardians of a currently enrolled Monongalia County Schools' student
- MCS staff members or administrators who are parents of a currently enrolled student
- Additional appointments made by the Superintendent (community experts/members/educational leaders)
Members will represent the many cultures, languages, ethnicities and neighborhoods of the County’s student body.
FACS parent/guardian members will:
- Actively participate in monthly meetings.
- Share input on policy decisions and best practices.
- Discuss parent perspectives on topics impacting their child’s school and the school system.
- Build relationships with parents from across the school system.
- Provide feedback and be responsible for sharing, promoting and communicating information to parents in their respective schools.
- Maintain professional and positive intent while addressing and brainstorming solutions for consideration.
- Stay within the topic framework during the meeting.
FACS Members may be contacted by the community to provide input and comments regarding their respective schools. Please see the contact information listed below or contact your school.
Authority: The Family Advisory Council to the Superintendent serves as an advisory group to the Superintendent and not a decision-making body for the Board of Education.
Meetings: The FACS meetings will be held once per month during the school year. Meeting schedules are subject to change.
Meeting Dates:
2023-24 Meetings will be held at the Board of Education administrative offices located at 1751 Earl L. Core Road, Morgantown, WV 26505
