Principal’s Message for October 2019
The school year is well underway, and students are hard at work, expanding their minds and growing in their leadership skills. It is amazing to observe them working collaboratively, and see them change from timid, hesitant boys and girls, to students asking probing questions and using teamwork to solve complicated problems. They’re on the right track.
October brings cooler nights, but days filled with sunshine and beautiful autumn colors. If you have an opportunity to take a drive through the mountains of West Virginia, do yourself a favor and observe the glory of fall. The sites are breathtaking and very special.
In October alone, our students will attend a special Fire Prevention Program at UHS, to learn about fire safety at home and at school. They will visit the Pittsburgh Zoo, the WV Botanic Gardens, just off of Tyrone Road, and Prickett’s Fort. These trips allow us to bring to life, many of the WV Content Standards. We’ll end the month, and begin the next one, with presentations in the WV Farm Bureau Mobile Classroom, which will be parked here for two weeks. All our students will benefit from top quality hands-on science activities, provided by the staff of the Farm Bureau. These lessons are among the most anticipated activities of the school year, and we’re very fortunate to have them scheduled for every student in our school.
As we continue our study of the 7 Habits of Happy Kids, and Highly Successful People, each of our students has been developing their own personal mission statement, and contributing to the development of the class’s mission. Ask your child to explain their mission to you. If you visit the building, read through the staff missions located on the “Lead with Heart” mural, in the lower building lobby. It will give you a pretty good idea about what we hope for our students.
Finally, a reminder…
Please be certain to send a note of explanation with your child, after each absence from school. We carefully track attendance, as we strive to meet our state attendance goal of 95%. We collect all absence notes and code them daily, so that accurate attendance records are maintained. If you have questions, please contact one of the office staff.
