Message from the Principal

GENTLE REMINDER…

As we move through the season of challenging weather, please be certain that you have confirmed with your child’s teacher, the arrangements you’ve made for getting your child home, in the event of an early dismissal. At the beginning of the year, you completed a “Dismissal Information Form”, on blue paper. We will follow those instructions unless you notify us of changes in writing. Please plan in advance, and refrain from calling the school office to make last minute changes. With 820+ students, it’s a challenge to field a huge number of phone calls during these emergency schedule changes. We appreciate your cooperation.

INCLEMENT WEATHER DAYS OF INSTRUCTION

As schools grapple with losing days of instruction because of inclement weather, potentially causing an extension to the school year, Monongalia County Schools has developed a plan to address this challenge. By strategically planning learning activities, utilizing our Chromebooks, and through the development of specialized activities, our new ARCTIC ACADEMY DAYS will allow our schools to reimagine classroom time disrupted by the weather, or other calamities, so that we do not lose days of instruction.

Our students have been given appropriate instruction to complete these activities. If you have questions, please contact your child’s teacher.

PANTRY PLUS MORE

Our school-based food pantry is serving our students well. Guided by the Pantry Plus More organization, we are supplying food for several of our families, each day, and have been able to offer fresh fruit and vegetables on the second Friday of the month, with pick-up at the lower building entrance from 4-6PM.

BENEFIT FOR AUTISM SPEAKS

Cheat Lake’s own First Grade teacher, Jaclyn Stamile, is in training to run the Chicago Marathon on October 13, to support children with autism. To support her fundraising efforts, there will be an evening of delicious food and entertainment at Black Bear Burritos Restaurant (downtown) on February 19, with a percentage of the sale proceeds going to the Autism Speaks Foundation. There is NO COVER CHARGE. Prizes from some local businesses will be raffled. Come and eat and enjoy!

Needless to say, we are very proud of Ms. Stamile!

If you are unable to attend and would like to donate, please visit the fundraiser link at:
