Meet the Director

My name is Debbie Jones.  I have been the Director of Early Childhood Services in Monongalia County Schools for the past six years.  Monongalia County Head Start offers Universal Preschool/Head Start Services in thirty-nine (39) classrooms across the county to meet the needs of our communities most needy. Born and raised in Monongalia County, I have watched our county grow and change over the years.

I began my career as a special education teacher thirty-thee (33) years ago.  After approximately fifteen (15) years in the classroom, I stepped out of the classroom into a county level administration position.  After several years as a Special Education Coordinator, Coach, etc.  I became a school administrator at a PK-5 elementary school.  My final career change occurred six (6) years ago when I assumed the role of Director of Early Childhood.  This position covers multiple areas.  These include: Early Head Start Director, Head Start Director, Universal PK, and specific portions of Kindergarten such as scheduling and maintaining Early Entrance into Kindergarten assessment.

I have always loved children, especially those less fortunate or those who learn differently. I believe all children are capable of learning and being successful.  I also firmly believe that what is done in the early years and the Head Start program is so valuable and critical to the future of our children. As a program, we have such a brief period of time to make a positive impact with our families.  Our window of opportunity, to empower our parents, encourage them to advocate for their child and provide them with the tools to support school readiness and future school success, is very brief.  Children deserve a safe, warm nurturing environment with loving and caring adults. We have the most valuable and enjoyable roles; Head Start is essential for our communities continued success.
