The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) of 2021 provides opportunities for post-secondary students to receive funding to offset some hardships endured during the 2020-21 academic year. Funds can be used for any emergency costs that arose due to the pandemic, such as food, housing, healthcare or childcare. Jessica Ogaez was one of 50 recipients at MTEC.
After earning a bachelor’s degree, Ogaez realized she wanted to make a career change that would afford her more opportunities no matter where she lived. A mother of three, and daughter of a nurse, she decided to keep in tradition make nursing her trajectory.
Ogaez started with the quickest route to that goal – attending MTEC. She will complete her LPN training and take the certification exam in August.
The CRRSAA funding was not automatically distributed to qualified students. MTEC Principal, Greg Dausch applied for the grant money as soon as he knew it was available and worked with Mon County Schools key personnel to ensure deadlines and grant criteria were met. Jessica said “He is a good principal. Without him, this would not have happened.” More about CRRSAA here.
