Below the table are descriptions of each presentation.  Spaces are limited.  

Once you have decided what you wish to attend, please make sure to write them down and then go to the table below.  You must select 3 sessions to attend.  Dr. Zimmerman's session is a required session.  Select one of Dr.Zimmerman's sessions and two others of your choice. Make sure that you click on each one and complete the registration form.  (Three sessions means three registration forms!)  

Please bring a charged Chromebook or laptop on August 15th - if you have one.  However it is not necessary!  Brand new teachers will not have one by the 15th.

Positive Language (K-5) Required Session
Keynote Speaker: Dr. Alan Zimmerman
Choose Dr. Zimmerman for one of your three sessions!
As a best-selling author, keynote speaker, and authority on the topics of leadership, teamwork, communication, and attitude, Dr. Alan Zimmerman has inspired people around the world. He’s coming to speak with teachers about the importance of the language we use when speaking to children and others. Participants will receive a copy of Dr. Zimmerman’s book The Payoff Principle.

Elementary Adventures in Project-Based Learning (Grades 3 -5)
This 90-minute session will help elementary educators develop Project Based Learning opportunities throughout their existing curriculum and aligned with existing goals and strategies. As an introduction to this style of teaching, build your own adventure with your favorite theme by creating key questions to successfully guide students to embrace the most needed skills for today’s works force; collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity. This adventure will lead you to learning skills that design, assess, and manage projects on your journey.

Orientation to The Great Body Shop (K-5)
Explore available online resources and learn about new features for 2017-2018. Please bring your teachers' guide. 


Introduction to Jan Richardson’s Guided Writing (K-5)
In this session, educators will gain an understanding of what Guided Writing is, why it is an important part of instruction, and how it evolves from emergent to fluent writers. We will discuss teacher and student roles at each developmental writing level and watch Jan Richardson video clips as she models several levels of guided writing instruction. There will be time for collaborative thinking and sharing.

Learn about advanced features and reports to make the assessments and Teacher Toolbox work for you.

Harcourt Journeys (K-5)
Learn about the many resources available in your Journeys instructional materials. These sessions are for teachers new to Journeys and those who are already familiar. There’s something for everyone who teaches English Language Arts!

myON Advanced Features (K-5)
Learn to use features of MyON to increase student engagement, including contests, projects, and other ideas to get your kids reading with these fun electronic class library resources.

Wild About Word Study--How to Integrate Word Study into your ELA Block (K-5)
In this session, teachers will gain a better understanding for the various spelling stages by analyzing student writing samples and learning how to score and use the Primary and/or Elementary Spelling Inventories. We will go over the basic components of word sorting and review simple activities for your students to do to practice word sorts. Finally we will discuss how to easily integrate Word Study into your already busy schedules and delve into the resources that our Journeys program provides for Word Study.

WV Studies (Grades 3 and 4)
Join author Michelle Ceravalo to learn about new supplemental Social Studies resources for grades 3 and 4. These materials can help you teach the West Virginia Studies content standards. 

Zaner Bloser (K-5) 
Learn about the resources available in the new edition of Zaner Bloser Handwriting. Handwriting instruction is required for students K-5, and you can get the most of the new resources by learning how they are organized.   Teachers - bring your manuals with you - if you have received them.

Safety Care Introduction (K-5)
Participants will be introduced to the Safety Care Curriculum (chapters 1 and 2).  Participants will better understand challenging behaviors of students, learn about safe and supportive environments, safety habits, and therapeutic use of reinforcement.  

Teacher Created Materials (K-5)
Learn about the resources you have available in your book room right now to support Guided Reading and Content Integration.  All attendees will receive a free book!
